⚽️ Audi Field’s Makeover Plan Faces Skepticism
D.C. United is pushing for a $620M renovation of Audi Field that would add a climate-controlled roof and expand capacity from 20,000 to 28,000. Proposed legislation calls for $300M in public funding over a five-year stretch, alongside at least $320M in proposed private investment.
In theory, the project would reshape Audi Field’s year-round business.
D.C. United believes that the roof will add weather protection to help accommodate MLS’s new summer-to-spring calendar.
A team-commissioned study projects 64 additional events annually to the greater area, expanding opportunities for concerts, premium hospitality and corporate entertainment.
Audi Field currently offers 31 luxury suites and two VIP lounges and the AV Lounge, which opened in 2025. Club reps have indicated premium expansion is being explored as part of the project.
The proposal, however, faces skepticism from key players, including current Mayor Muriel Bowser’s administration — who is set to leave office soon — stemming from concerns that Washington already has significant stadium investments behind Monumental Sports and Entertainment’s Capital One Arena renovation and the forthcoming Commanders stadium project.
Our Take: Washington has a strong premium foundation in place, led by Capital One Arena’s ambitious transformation. Nationals Park has an established hospitality business, while the Commanders’ forthcoming stadium at the RFK site is expected to introduce a significant collection of high-end experiences.
Together, these venues, along with the proposed Sphere at National Harbor (which secured a key financing approval yesterday) could make Washington an even more attractive destination for premium sports, entertainment, and corporate events.
Proposed renovations to Audi Field could add to that momentum if it introduces differentiated premium experiences and attracts additional corporate buyers. But more events and seats don’t necessarily mean stronger premium business.
Ultimately, the question is — does an upgraded Audi Field attract new events and further cement Washington as a leading premium hospitality destination, or does it simply cannibalize it? This will be a key question for the incoming mayor’s office to consider.
⚾️ Southern Miss Pitches $25M Ballpark Transformation

Southern Miss Athletics has launched a public fundraising campaign for a proposed $25M renovation to Pete Taylor Park. The vision aims to keep the ballpark’s long-celebrated atmosphere while expanding premium hospitality inventory and increasing capacity to 6,500 (up from 4,300).
Dubbed “Where Tradition Meets Tomorrow,” the initiative’s final design and timeline will depend upon the speed and success of the fundraising process.
The proposed premium upgrades include:
Additional Suite Inventory: Eight new luxury suites, increasing the total from 12 to 20, alongside renovations to existing suites
Left Field Landing: A new premium hospitality destination with concessions and restrooms, potentially accommodating private events
Enhanced premium seating: Reimagined seating behind home plate and new loge boxes along the left field line
Beyond premium spaces and general stadium improvements, the broader vision includes a player performance center with upgraded hitting facilities and reconfigured baseball operations space.
Our Take: Now feels like a good time for Southern Miss to launch fundraising efforts, given the Golden Eagles’ 10 consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances (there was no tournament held during the 2020 season) and 66-24 regular season Sun Belt record since joining the conference since joining the conference in 2023.
What makes the school’s project particularly noteworthy, however, is that Southern Miss isn’t simply positioning premium hospitality as a potential revenue engine for athletic program investment — it’s pairing the premium buildout and player-performance infrastructure within the same project. In an era when athletic departments face mounting pressure to fund roster investment, recruiting and player development efforts, the strategy provides an opportunity to align commercial growth with competitive priorities.
🏟️ First Look at Barclays Center’s New Amex Lounge

Brooklyn Sports and Entertainment announced the completion of phase three of its five-year, $150 M-plus Barclays Center renovation.
The latest upgrades include:
A dedicated American Express entrance and new lounge
9,000-square-foot event-level club with show kitchens and 93-foot LED screen
Tunnel views of Brooklyn Nets players
The new suite-level Amex Lounge is accessible to eligible Platinum and Centurion cardholders and guests — one for Platinum, three for Centurion members — who also hold event tickets. Food and cocktails are available for purchase, and thanks to a couple TikTok commenters, who’ve experienced the lounge, for reporting that only cardholders receive two drink tickets upon arrival.
🍻 AFC Bournemouth’s Pre-Match F&B Sales Jump 42%
AFC Bournemouth saw 42% spike in pre-match food and beverage sales on the strength of recent improvements to Vitality Stadium, per team officials. This stands a quick win for the Premier League club continues a broader stadium redevelopment project.
AFC Bournemouth noted that more than 10,000 supporters were inside Vitality Stadium perimeter 32 minutes prior to a recent AC Milan match, likely spurred by better entry checkpoint and circulation as well as additional bars, concecessions and weather protections.
Previously, the club reported 40% of its matchday revenue was driven by its 6% premium hospitality capacity.
Quick Take: Extending the gameday experience has become a top priority for pro and college sports teams, and Bournemouth’s results provide tangible evidence behind making it one. The 42% pop in pre-match F&B sales reinforces the business case for investments designed to get fans through the gates earlier and keep them there beyond the final whistle, bell, horn or pitch.
